What Are You Doing Wrong if You Apply to Places With No Response?
- On April 20, 2018
I enjoyed this post about what you are doing wrong when you send out your resume but get no response:
- Your resume is not about you! Most lawyers list what they do in the order they do it at work. Employers do not care about this. At all.
- Your resume should be about them! Instead, your resume should show how you can help the employer immediately. Your passion, motivation, interest, whatever does not matter as much as clear evidence that you can add value immediately.
- How do you show you can help? Research the company, and figure out the top 3-5 things in the job description they care most about. Then tailor your resume so a reader can glean in a quick skim you have those skills. Include statistics, e.g., how much $ you saved, what % growth the company/product increased, $ value of the portfolio, # contracts processed, etc. With this information, the manager can visualize what you do and how you can fit on the team.
