Top Interview Tips from Google Exec That Apply to Everyone!

I agree with these interview tips by a Google exec-turned-coach; he summarizes key takeaways from Google recruiting:
- Before the interview, get ready to explain your profile (as set in your resume and LinkedIn) and how your skills are relevant to the job. Know the company business and space. Think about what questions you might be asked and prepare concise answers. Plan ahead for how things can go wrong and how to right the course. (You do that for your clients; now do this for yourself!)
- During the interview, explain your relevant experience with concrete examples and language that resonates with the interviewer and fits with the company culture. Be engaging. Gauge if you are going long or short by the interviewer’s body language.
- After the interview, send thank you notes that are tailored to the person and that emphasize key things you talked about (or want to expand). In my experience, most interviewers don’t really care if you send one or not, but every once in awhile, the interviewer is a stickler for etiquette and will hold it against you for not sending one. Since it’s hard to tell which camp your interviewer is in, go ahead and send a thank you note, but make sure there are zero errors (if there are, you were in better shape before you sent that note!).
