​As we get close to the year end crush, don’t bother shooting out your resume in volume – it’s unlikely you will get attention during the holidays. But this time of year is good to plan your next career moves.

Here are the top 5 things you can do now:

1. Network (gently) so people will want to help you when you need it. Send out those holiday cards and congratulate your contacts on their achievements!
2. Check out job postings to spot what are the requisite skills for the job you want. For instance, do you need expertise in data privacy or ethics/compliance for your field?
3. Set yourself up to get those requisite skills to land that dream job. For example, sign up for CIPP certification, or volunteer to update your company’s  code of ethics.
4. Update your resume and LinkedIn bio with your latest accomplishments before you forget!
5. Start your “I love me” file for 2015. Remind yourself to periodically save glowing emails, and calculate statistics ($ saved, % of growth for your business unit, etc.) so you can add them to your resume and bio.
