What are Interviewers Thinking? A Quick Explanation
- On August 21, 2016
Interviewers generally ask candidates the same questions. What are they thinking? Here’s the thought process behind these basic questions.
- Where do you see yourself in 5 years? Interviewers want to know you will stay awhile. I have seen candidates answer that the role would be a good stepping stone. That would be an answer to stay away from.
- Tell me about yourself. This question assesses how efficiently you communicate, whether you have the relevant skills for the job, and how well you present yourself. The interviewer is looking specifically to see if you can explain things to clients and if they would feel comfortable approaching you.
- Why are you interested in us? Interviewers want to see enthusiasm and a natural connection to the job. Candidates who have done their research and who make the case they would be a good hire set themselves apart.
- Why do you want to leave your current position? No one wants to hire someone fleeing a situation. Address this question in a polished manner.
- What questions do you have for me? Again, this is to see whether you know anything about the employer already and how interested you truly are.
Before your interview, prep for these basic questions. Practice answers so they stay under 90 seconds and include relevant points/interesting stories.
