When Can You Check In on Status After an Interview?
- On January 11, 2015
Following up once after an interview if you haven’t heard in a week (yes, SEVEN days) is fine. If you are checking in more than that, you might be a pest.
Some exceptions (i.e., when it’s OK to follow-up more frequently) include:
- Giving relevant new information about your work status, like you received another offer. At this time, you can also ask for guidance on timing. Be sure to reiterate your interest in this job, however.
- Sending relevant information about the employer, for example if the company just received an award. Then you can check in while congratulating them, which also demonstrates continued interest.
- If you are an out-of-town candidate, giving dates when you will be in town in the near future and offering to meet up.
- Giving your vacation schedule and/or new contact information on how (or when) you can be reached.
