How’s the Legal Market Doing?

The legal market is still strong! Generally hiring tracks the stock market. However, I noticed a slowdown in tech hiring (but not life sciences) after the surprise election results in 2016. However, 2017 hiring ended strong (as the stock market held steady). The Recorder also noted the Northern California legal market has been doing well. In fact, by the end of last year, firms in Northern California outpaced all other regions in growth, showing strong demand for legal services here. Revenue for legal services grew here by 7.2%, compared to the national average of 4.5%. Northern California firms also increased headcount by 3.6%, compared to the national average of 1.9%.

If you are wondering when things will slow down, the legal market generally lags the business market, i.e., if business crashes, hiring for legal then follows. So you can expect some notice.
