4 Interview Questions to Prep For
- On February 3, 2018
Four questions you should be ready to answer when facing a long day of interviews ahead:
- Hypos. Know the challenges the business and your interviewers are confronting. They may well ask you to comment on some portion, so research the legal framework underlying their problems. Know the law, ask about their risk tolerance and goals, and walk them through your thought process. Often there is no right answer, so they are judging you on how you think and present.
- Basic questions like your strengths and weaknesses. Yes, it is unlikely you will be asked, but if you don’t have some stories and answers ready, you will look flat-footed. In that vein, bring copies of your resume. Again, it’s unlikely interviewers won’t have a copy, but it’s expected that you brought one as back-up.
- Questions about you. You may think talking about yourself is easy, but tough interviewers will hone in on gaps in your resume and question jumps you’ve made. And if you happen to have a great resume, they may ask you why if things are so good you want to leave your employer. Be ready to talk about anything on your resume, e.g., they may also pepper you with questions on a paper you wrote years ago or about an ancient deal.
- Expected compensation. It is now illegal for California employers to ask what you make, but they may still do so. They are allowed to ask what you want to make. Get ready for either scenario. Some tips here: https://www.susantiensearch.com/4-ways-handle-ban-asked-current-compensation/.
