Why Does A Potential Employer Go Radio Silent?
- On July 28, 2013
I am often asked why a firm or company who seemed interested would suddenly cease communications in the recruiting process. There could be a few things going on:
- The potential employer has higher priorities at the moment than hiring. Management could be caught up with demanding work, and HR could be tasked with more urgent matters.
- The potential employer is restructuring or perhaps hit with a job freeze. There is uncertainty over the role, so they don’t want to speak out of line.
- The hiring manager is on vacation, has left, or changed roles. Perhaps your internal champion is no longer there or no longer holds sway.
- The potential employer is more interested in someone else — perhaps an offer has been made already, and the employer wants to see how that goes first.
If you have been regularly checking in to no avail, I would advise you to stop for a couple weeks.
