Presenting a Compelling Career Arc Even with Multiple Moves
- On January 2, 2014
Your career arc needs to be clean and compelling, but what if you made some moves? Some ways to make the narrative clear in your resume:
- If your firm merged, list only the current (and usually better known) name under the employer/work experience section, and simply add “(f/k/a [old firm])” next to it.
- If you were recruited to a new job by a former partner, colleague or business client, add that crucial information to the resume because it shows that your work product is memorably good and that you are easy to work with.
- If you worked for the same employer in a couple different stints, list that employer only once along with the multiple dates you were there. This entry system eliminates extra clutter.
- If you left a company because it went under or merged with another company, include that information since it rebuts the presumption that you like to change jobs.
