Timing is everything in your job search. If you apply at the wrong time, the employer won’t pay attention, even if you are perfect. Conversely, you need to get in front of the hiring manager when he/she is paying attention, and now is the time to accelerate your search. Why? Because June through August is the summer slowdown. Even if the employer wants to hire during that time, many attorneys are taking their summer break (staggered), so it’s hard to string together a lineup of interviewers. 

To avoid this slowdown, your resume needs to be in the right hands now. It’s mid-March. It’ll take a week for the employer to cull through its top candidates and conduct first round interviews, which brings us to end of March. Second round will take us through mid-April. There often is a third round to pick up any interviewers missed earlier, which takes us to May. Then the employer has to do a background check and finish offer negotiations. If there is a turndown and they get to you, we are already at the end of May and at the start of the slowdown. Don’t get caught in it. And don’t miss out in this very hot economy.
