Keep a Positive Outlook Even in Uncertain Economic Times

The job market these past few months have been unusually quiet due to global and domestic uncertainty. Hopefully the market will pick up in the start of the year. For those attorneys who have been unable to land the job they want, a few things to consider:

1. Try to learn from your mistakes if you have been passed over. Ask interviewers if they have any feedback or tips. Sometimes they actually do let you know why you aren’t right.
2. Interviewing can be a learning opportunity — you can learn more about the industry, company, role, department, and processes simply by interviewing. I’ve seen candidates who didn’t get the job still get referred to other positions or kept in mind for future jobs if they connected during the interview.
3. Try to talk to multiple prospective employers at once. That way you have a little leverage to speed things up with others or bump up pay if one is showing interest.
