5 Ways to Tell If You are Messing up Interviews
- On May 7, 2017
If you get an interview, you have a shot at the job! But how can you tell if you are doing something wrong in interviews? Here are 5 signs:
- If you interview with 3 or more different employers, and none proceeds to the offer stage. You offer enough to get called in, so it’s likely you are failing something in the interview.
- If you are doing most of the talking. Good interviews flow like good conversation.
- If you are told it’s a long process at the first meeting. Often this comment is a way to start setting your expectations that things aren’t going to proceed.
- If the interview is cut short without mention of next steps or a reschedule.
- If after the interview you are passed over and you request feedback, you get rigid responses across the board that it’s against company policy, instead of getting tips or even being ignored.
Bonus: If you are consistently told you are the runner-up and the company is going with someone with more experience, then it’s unlikely you messed up per se. Find out what experience you are lacking, and make sure you get it. Your time will come.
