3 Interview Essentials, No Matter the Role or Your Experience
- On January 17, 2016
All lawyers have the basic skills to interview well. You are used to anticipating questions, assessing risk, and working hard. Now apply them to yourself – these top 3 work for lawyers of any level for any role:
- Assess yourself objectively like a case you are working up. There are good facts to emphasize and bad facts to minimize and reframe. Just as you persuade a judge or client, come up with a simple theme that the interviewer can remember about you.
- Practice. You know what questions are likely to come up. Now run through your answers so you don’t stumble over a certain word or element. Time yourself so you don’t go long or short.
- Delivery. Be authentic, personable, and persuasive! For phone interviews, answer standing with a smile on your face (the energy is palpable). For in-person meetings, bring energy, poise, and interest.
