2 Helpful Resources for Job Seekers
- On May 21, 2023
Helpful resources for job seekers in today’s market are Layoffs.fyi and its sister site Comprehensive.io. The NYT recently profiled the founder of both, Roger Lee, a San Francisco entrepreneur, for “catalog[uing] hundreds of thousands of tech job cuts.” Interesting insights:
- The founder believes the industry will “100 percent” bounce back. I agree. I have lived through the dot bomb and financial crisis, which affected lawyers even more than now, and after each of those crises, the tech, life sciences, and legal fields came back.
- The stigma of being laid off is not as bad as in the past. I agree. The founder “believes that talking openly about layoffs in the industry he loves is healthy” and that the “reduced stigma has the potential to be really positive” because “if people are speaking openly about layoffs, …workers can find new jobs efficiently.” Indeed, the transparency from his website “has helped workers put their own layoffs in context — and has helped the public understand the downturn.”
- The new site Comprehensive.io helpfully tracks compensation from tech job postings on a public list, including for legal counsel! Check out the site to get a sense of current comp for lawyers (or whatever position you have in mind)!
